Privacy Policy and Terms of Use
Privacy Policy for LB: Universal Scanner
This page explains how LB: Universal Scanner handles data, what third-party services may be used, and what choices users have.
Thank you for using LB: Universal Scanner ("the App"). This Privacy Policy applies to the Android and iPhone versions of the App, depending on platform, app version, country, device support, and enabled settings. It also includes basic Terms of Use.
The App is designed to work without creating a user account or cloud profile.
Most settings, scan history, notes, profiles, reminders, and preferences stay on your device.
The App does not show third-party ads and is not built around advertising trackers.
1. The Core Principle
The App is built to be privacy-friendly and useful without unnecessary accounts or tracking.
- No account is required to use the App.
- No third-party ads are shown in the App.
- The App is designed without a developer-run cloud profile for users.
- The majority of your data, including scan history, saved product notes, local profile settings, allergen preferences, digestive-profile preferences, keto preferences, longevity / healthy-aging preferences, fiber tracking entries, scan mode, selected translation language, voice settings, reminder settings, Smart Substitution data, Household Safety summaries, and most other settings, is stored only on your device.
- Some features depend on third-party services such as product databases, nutrition databases, translation services, cosmetic/chemical reference sources, donation pages, app stores, email providers, and your device's built-in speech, sharing, PDF, or notification services. Those services may receive limited data needed to provide the feature you choose to use.
2. Information Processed on Your Device
To provide its features, the App needs to access or process certain information. Most of this is handled locally on your device.
a. Camera, photos, and scanning
- Why we need it: The App supports barcode scanning and manual product scanning from photos, including human food ingredient lists, pet food ingredient lists, cosmetic INCI lists, and cleaning product labels.
- How it is used: The camera is only used when you actively scan a product or take a photo for text recognition.
- On-device processing: Depending on your platform and app version, barcode scanning, text recognition, language identification, image crop assistance, and related features may use Google ML Kit on Android and/or Apple system frameworks and translation-related system services on iPhone.
- Temporary files: Temporary image files, crop data, OCR text, or cache files may be created during scan processing or image handling on your device.
b. Scan history and product results
- The App can save recently scanned products so you can view them again later.
- Saved scan history is stored only in the App's local device storage.
- History may be used locally for Household Safety summaries, basket summaries, comparison tools, Smart Substitution suggestions, Safe List markers, and local reports.
- You can disable history saving or clear saved history in the App settings.
c. Per-product notes and saved reminders
- You can save your own notes for scanned products, for example packaging details, missing allergen information, digestive triggers, sensitivities, or personal reminders.
- Notes are saved locally on your device only, usually per barcode or per scanned product key.
- Notes are not shared with other users and are not uploaded by the App to a developer-operated account.
d. Local profiles and preferences
- The App may let users create or switch local profiles, for example for different family members or different preference sets.
- Profile names, selected allergens, digestive profiles, keto settings, longevity / healthy-aging settings, custom digestive triggers, Biofarm / Cleaner Label preferences, nutrition alert toggles, scan mode, translation language, voice mode, speech rate and pitch, dark mode, notification preferences, and similar settings are stored locally on your device.
- Profiles are local convenience features. They are not online accounts.
e. Translation settings and cache
- The App may remember your selected target translation language so future scanned products can be translated more conveniently.
- The selected language and any cached translations are stored locally on your device.
- You can switch back to Original text or change translation settings inside the App.
f. Allergen, digestive, keto, longevity, and profile checks
- The App may compare product text, ingredient data, allergens, ingredient aliases, related ingredients, ingredient families, and profile settings to show warnings or cautions.
- Selected allergens may be checked across human food, pet food, cosmetics, and cleaning products when the App has enough product or ingredient information.
- Digestive, FODMAP, IBS / SIBO, fructose, polyol, onion / garlic, inulin / FOS, keto, clean-eating, longevity / healthy-aging, blue-zone-inspired, pregnancy / baby caution, medication caution, and similar tools are informational profile checks only.
- These features are designed to help you review labels. They do not diagnose conditions, determine medical suitability, or guarantee safety.
g. LB Smart Trace / Ingredient Relations
- The App may show ingredient-family information, aliases, related ingredients, derived-from notes, sub-ingredients, plain-English explanations, and cross-reference cautions.
- LB Smart Trace / Ingredient Relations may be used across human food, pet food, cosmetics, and cleaning products where data is available.
- This feature is generated from local ingredient data, scanned text, product database data, and built-in ingredient rules. It is informational only and may be incomplete.
h. Raw food, fiber, basket, and household tools
- The App may include raw food search, fiber lookup, nutrition lookup, daily fiber tracking, basket summaries, blue-zone-inspired basket checks, digestive basket checks, keto basket checks, longevity basket checks, or Household Safety Score tools.
- Food names, selected amounts, daily totals, diary-style entries, scan history summaries, basket summaries, and household summaries are stored locally unless a feature clearly uses an online database lookup.
- These tools are informational and should not replace medical or dietitian advice.
i. Experimental product score, Smart Substitution, and comparisons
- The App may show an experimental product score, such as an out-of-100 rating, based on available product data, warnings, allergens, ingredients, nutrition details, and user settings.
- Smart Substitution and product comparison features may use products already saved or scanned on your device to suggest alternatives or compare options locally.
- The score, comparisons, and substitution suggestions may be incomplete or wrong if product data is incomplete, outdated, mistranslated, or missing.
j. Local reports and sharing
- The App may generate local reports, such as doctor / dietitian summaries, household safety summaries, allergy or trigger summaries, or product review summaries.
- Reports are created for your convenience. If you choose to share, export, email, print, or save a report outside the App, the selected destination app or service may process that file under its own privacy policy.
k. Product images and cached media
- If a product database provides an image URL, the App may load that image and cache it locally on your device for display performance.
l. Voice Assistant / Text-to-Speech
- If you enable Voice Assistant Mode, the App sends text to your device's configured speech engine so results can be read aloud.
- Depending on your platform and version, this may use Android Text-to-Speech, Apple speech / voice services, or another installed device speech engine.
- Your device's speech engine may operate under its own privacy policy and terms.
m. Optional scan reminder notifications
- If you enable scan reminders, the App may schedule local notifications to remind you to scan products before buying or using them.
- Reminder settings, including reminder time, are stored locally on your device.
- You can disable reminders in the App settings or through your device's notification settings.
3. Information Shared With Third-Party Services
Some features require limited data to be sent to third-party services. We do not require an account from you to use these features.
a. Barcode lookups
- Human food: When you scan a human food barcode, the barcode may be sent to Open Food Facts and Pro Open Food Facts to retrieve product information.
- If you manually enable the optional legacy source where available, the barcode may also be sent to FoodRepo.org.
- Pet food: When you scan a pet food barcode, the barcode may be sent to Open Pet Food Facts.
- Cosmetics: When you scan a cosmetic barcode, the barcode may be sent to Open Beauty Facts.
- Cleaning products: When you scan a cleaning product barcode, the barcode may be sent to Open Products Facts.
b. Product search by name
- If you search for a product by name, the search text may be sent to the selected or relevant product database service so matching products can be shown.
- Search results depend on the third-party database and may be incomplete or unavailable.
c. Raw food and nutrition lookups
- If the App offers raw food, fiber, or nutrition lookup from online sources, the food name or search query may be sent to public nutrition databases or reference sources, such as USDA FoodData Central or other open/public food data providers where supported.
- The App may use returned nutrition information, such as fiber values per 100 g or per serving, to show informational results.
d. Translation services
- Depending on your platform, app version, and chosen settings, translation may use Google ML Kit, Apple Translate or related Apple system translation services, LibreTranslate, or Lingva Translate.
- If you choose an online translator, the text you choose to translate may be sent to that selected third-party service.
- Some translation models or language packages may be downloaded to your device when needed.
e. Cosmetic ingredient research features
- If you tap a cosmetic ingredient card to load extra reference data, the ingredient name may be sent to PubChem to retrieve chemical reference information.
- If you choose to open CosIng, ECHA, or EWG Skin Deep, the App may open those services in your browser. Your use of those sites is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
f. Source product pages and contribution websites
- If you choose to open a product's source page or use a contribution option, the App may open an external website in your browser and include the barcode, product code, ingredient name, or search query in the destination URL.
g. Optional donations / support
- If you tap the Donate option, the App may open PayPal or Wise in your browser or app so you can support the creator voluntarily.
- Donations are optional and do not unlock premium features, faster scans, badges, or digital extras inside the App.
- The App does not process your payment card or banking details directly. Payment information is handled by the selected donation provider.
h. Email contact, support, and feedback
- If you choose to send us an email, your email app/provider will process your email address and message contents in the normal way.
- If you use optional analysis feedback, correction feedback, report-by-email, or support email features, the App may prepare an email with product details, scan details, warnings, app version, device information, or notes that you choose to send.
- You can review and edit the email before sending it. We receive only what you voluntarily send.
- We may use emails to respond, investigate the issue, provide support, correct mistakes, improve the App, or keep records of the support request.
i. App stores and platform services
- Google Play, the Apple App Store, Android, iOS, and device manufacturers may process information such as installs, updates, crashes, diagnostics, reviews, ratings, or store interactions under their own privacy policies.
- This is separate from the App's local storage and from any developer-operated account, because the App does not require an account.
4. No Account, No Ads, Optional Support
- The App does not require you to create an account.
- The App does not show third-party ads.
- The App is designed to work without a cloud profile or centralized user account.
- Optional donations may be offered through external services, but they do not change the App's core functionality or grant digital benefits.

6. Important Accuracy, Allergy, Digestive, Diet, and Safety Notice
- The App relies in part on third-party and community-maintained product databases. Product information can be incomplete, outdated, mistranslated, or inaccurate.
- A valid real-world product may not yet appear in a free public database, even if its barcode is correct.
- Allergen, ingredient, digestive-trigger, keto, fiber, nutrition, cosmetic, pet food, or cleaning-product information may be missing or incomplete in online database entries.
- Barcode scans, product search, manual photo scans, OCR, translation, ingredient matching, LB Smart Trace / Ingredient Relations, cross-mode allergen checks, Smart Substitution, basket summaries, Household Safety Score, and experimental scores can all be wrong or incomplete.
- The App may generate warnings, ingredient insights, translations, voice summaries, digestive-profile alerts, keto-related alerts, longevity / healthy-aging alerts, blue-zone-inspired notes, cleaner-label alerts, raw food/fiber estimates, note-based reminders, household summaries, or experimental product scores, but these are informational only.
- The experimental score out of 100, Household Safety Score, basket scores, Smart Substitution, and cross-mode safety checks are convenience features. They are not guarantees that a product is safe, healthy, suitable, recommended, or appropriate for any specific person, pet, condition, allergy, diet, household, or medical situation.
- Always check the real product packaging and manufacturer information, especially for allergies, intolerances, IBS / SIBO / digestive sensitivities, keto or other diet restrictions, medical conditions, medication concerns, pregnancy or baby-related cautions, pet safety, chemical exposure concerns, or skin sensitivities.
- The App does not provide medical, nutritional, veterinary, dermatological, toxicological, regulatory, or legal advice.
- Cosmetic and chemical reference tools such as PubChem, CosIng, ECHA, and EWG are provided for research convenience only and may have their own limitations, notices, and rules.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Camera Permission: You can deny or revoke camera access at any time in system settings.

8. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local App data stays on your device until you delete it, clear it through App settings, clear the App's storage through system settings, or uninstall the App.
- Because the App does not require an account, there is no developer-operated account deletion process.
- If you email us for support, correction, feedback, or another voluntary reason, we may keep that email for as long as reasonably needed to respond, investigate the issue, keep records of the support request, or improve the App.
- Third-party services used by the App, such as product databases, translators, donation providers, app stores, email providers, and external reference sites, may have their own retention and deletion policies.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through account creation or similar systems, because the App does not require an account.
10. Data Security
Because most App data is stored locally, the security of that data depends largely on your device's own protections, such as screen lock, device encryption, and system security updates. No method of local storage or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure.
When the App connects to third-party services, data is generally sent over the network using the security measures provided by the device, operating system, and the relevant service. We do not control the security practices of third-party websites or services opened outside the App.
11. Terms of Use
- By using the App, you agree to use it at your own risk.
- The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, complete accuracy, complete database coverage, correct OCR, correct translation, correct scoring, or fitness for a particular purpose.
- You are responsible for your own decisions based on the App's output, and you should independently verify important information from product packaging, manufacturers, veterinarians, doctors, dietitians, pharmacists, poison-control resources, or other qualified professionals where appropriate.
- Third-party databases, translators, speech engines, notification systems, app stores, email providers, donation providers, and external reference sites may change, become unavailable, impose limits, or operate under their own separate legal terms and privacy policies.
- If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the App.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this page from time to time to reflect new App features, platform changes, service changes, or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows the latest revision date.
